“This break I’m going to get ALL my work done,” I confidently told my friends. And I have to say, I did plan on working until my brain was fried, but sadly, this did not happen. The minute I got back from the MUN trip, I was exhausted! I kept dosing off to sleep, but unfortunately, my loving parents and sister did not pay attention to a zombie like body passed out on the bed and so, I was awakened and disturbed several times. This short week basically involved a lot of eating, and when I say a lot of eating, trust me, A LOT of eating, a lot of sleeping, and of course, hanging out and chilling with my friends. But like every other break, this one zoomed by super fast that before I knew it, it was Sunday, which meant time to get all my work done. However, this break wasn’t a very crazy one like they have been in the past. Rather, it was very relaxing and calm and I cherished every moment of it because I knew that once we got back to school, I would be sleep deprived. Surprisingly, I wasn’t angry or annoyed that I didn’t party a lot, instead, it felt good to charge my battery, to get a good night’s sleep, and to wake up fresh the next day. And guess what? To top it all up and add to the cheerful and exciting feeling of not having to wake up at 6 A.M the next day to go to school, I received two acceptances from my universities, one in Switzerland, and the other one in Canada. Can’t complain, can I? It was a good and satisfying break indeed!
Congrats on the two schools! I know you were worried and that Switzerland was one of the top choices.Your break sounds great. Hope MUN was as well. Impressive that you got this post done so soon, too.
Well, my spring break was nothing to brag about but I the peak of m break was the amount of quality sleep I got! I usually leave the country during spring break but since I was in South Africa for a whole week before spring break started, we just decided to stay in Kinshasa. When I come to think about it, there really isn’t much to do in this place. Kinshasa lacks movie theatres, shopping centers; sport centers, and is just in need of a lot more forms of entertainment, especially for teenagers. I guess you got to make the most of what you have right? So in that case, I hung out with my friends everyday, we went out to eat a lot, and I would make time to go running at the river everyday at 5:30pm.
To be honest, my spring break revolved around one person. Farah. I guess we just couldn’t get enough of each other. We’d eat together, joke around, and we discovered our new chill out area. This sounds pretty absurd but our new “chill out” area is in the lobby of Hotel De Fleuve, which is a new Chinese hotel near Grand Hotel. We both entered and said “Wow! This doesn’t feel like Kinshasa” which was the amazing part of it! We were both fascinated by the classy and tasty décor of the hotel. We stayed for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and got a taste of each restaurant the hotel offered.
My spring break obviously consisted of much more, but I found living the “Suite Life of Zack and Cody” or shall I say the “Suite Life of Alina and Farah” at Hotel de Fleuve pretty amusing.
Nice use of what I think is an allusion to something I don't recognize with Zack and Cody. Glad you got needed sleep. I've never been inside of any of the hotels here and I've only been inside of three restaurants - maybe I need to get out more?
“IM ON VACATION!!!!!” I woke up on Saturday morning with the biggest smile on my face because I knew that I would finally be able to start sleeping in. However, above all, I also knew that I would have so much work to complete and so many responsibilities to fulfill. The big question was: When would I get the motivation to do all my school work? On Monday morning, I sat at my desk, took out my AP Biology textbook, flipped to the chapter about Human Physiology, and immediately my phone rang, “Jenn, it’s Maelle. My place at 2pm. See you!” Don’t start lecturing me about my priorities, ok?; I know when to make the right decisions, you can trust me on that. On this day however, I really felt that it was time for me to have a little bit of fun and to set aside the stress from the previous week. I was 100% ready for a “chilled” afternoon at Maelle’s place. When I got back home that evening, my mom announced to me that I would start driving courses. I told her that I already knew how to drive, however, she argued that she wanted me to get my license, then, instead of waiting for the end of the month. Well, you can already guess what my mornings looked like. I had to wake up at 8am every morning just so that I could make it to town at 9am for my classes. I was grumpy, annoyed, and so fed up because it felt just like school. Imagine sitting in a hot classroom with 6 other students and a teacher who talks so slowly that you could take a power nap in between each of his sentences, for 2 hours straight! Although my mornings consisted of classes, my afternoons usually involved spending time with my buddies, and my evenings were reserved for coursework. Well, at least, I remember doing a lot of work on Sunday night. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t procrastinate, ask anyone! I just REALLY NEEDED THIS BREAK.
I completely understand. Hopefully, you can REALLY relax on April break. The show will be over, Driver's Ed will be over, and you will still be a month out of AP exams. Hmmm. Sounds promising, no?
“The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) –UG, 2013 will be conducted on Sunday the 05th May 2013 from 10:00 am to 01:00 pm.” My whole spring break was centered on NEET. The exam date is coming closer and closer and in times like this, I wish I could control time. All I did this break was eat, study and a little more of eat, study and sleep. This spring break was quite crucial to me. I was able to cover many topics in chemistry due to which I was lagging behind. Another good thing about this break was that I was able to catch up on my sleep. The MUN trip was one tiring trip because all of us had to wake up sharply at seven in the morning. It was even more painful for us because we slept late. As soon as I got home from the trip, I just crashed on my couch. That was by far the best sleep I had had in ages. I actually fell in love with my couch because I stopped sleeping in bed. My break, honestly, was not that exciting; all I did really was study. Some would call me a nerd, but I guess there are some things you just do not have control over. Once you are determined to do something, it is just all you tend to think of. Which is exactly what is happening to me, I think NEET, I dream NEET and am surrounded by NEET. I believe this break was actually a little short and I am really looking for to the April break. I still have so much of Biology left to cover, so the coming break will hopefully cover that void.
I completely understand. All I did was sew costumes, eat and sleep. Sometimes the rush from doing one thing intensely is exhilarating though, no? Are you flying high on NEET endorphins yet?
Over the break I enjoyed the peacefulness of an empty week. I didn’t get much done or at least not very much official work. I did very little school work, which was both good and bad. I always like bringing back the days when I had no cares, the feel of freedom that gives you the ability to sleep in till whenever you wake up, and eat meals whenever you’re hungry (which may very well end up being the seven meals that Hobbits eat). I am also always glad to know that the work that I have is not due any time soon. However, the dragging feeling that the work --that I need to get done—causes, sometimes gets the better of me when I try to avoid responsibilities.
My failed escape from work didn’t put too much of a damper on my week of freedom however. I also had to do my regular chores, which is less annoying (than school work) because I actually get a cash reward, as appose to the reward I get from school work which is many times just worthless knowledge that I will never use again.
I was able to get some unofficial work done as well, which is always nice. I wrote a few songs and read a little more than a book. But overall it was just nice to have a lull in the intensity of the school year. Even though I didn’t get much done, my break was quite nice.
Sometimes zoning out is all we really need to do. At the right moment, I can get excited about sitting and drooling. And besides the cash reward, I enjoy the chores as time to just do something mindlessly physical like washing the floor so I can see the fruits of my labor and enjoy the knowledge that I did it for myself.
My resolution for this year was that every day is going to be a good day and by that I told myself that although I will not be spending my last spring break in Kinshasa without my brother from another mother, but I still made sure that I will be enjoying it to the last. My spring Break was a perfect combination of fun, and party time because with some of the high school students from school we had decided to make a weekly plan which was that during the one week break we were going to have six days where we were going to meet up and have fun and part together, and on Sunday we made sure that we will have our homework done for Monday at school. Everything was going just the way we had planned it to be, and although we were gathering together every day at 3pm but in the morning I still had to go work at my Dad's store every day at 7am, but once it was time I will leave to go have fun with my friend. I really had a chance to experience some new things such as swimming under the rain which is something that I have never done at Poya's house. Personally I will say that this spring break was the best spring that I have ever experienced in my life.
This spring break was definetely one of the best break I have had in a long time. I was looking forward to it, ever since we came back from Christmas holidays. Like most of my classmates, I needed a break from all the schoolwork and stress I endure every day. I needed to change my routine for a while, and clear my mind from all the hard thinking teachers makes us do. There was one thing in particular that I liked about the break however, and it was how restful it was. I was able to stay home, and just relax. It felt so good to catch up on sleep, and recovery from all my all-nighters.
Apart from sleeping and eating a lot, I spent the rest of my time reading or making desserts for the family. There was negative side of my break though. The weather was awful, the heat was unbearable. So that unfortunately made leaving the house to hang out with friends, rather unappealing. All I wanted to do was stay indoors, and get as much rest as possible, as the days quickly went by.
During that whole week, I went out only once to hang out with friends. I went to poya’s house, and we spent the day talking, chilling, dancing and swimming. It was a fun day, especially since many people from school were there. The last few days of break, I was glad to have been able to catch up on my assignments on, which I was extremely grateful for. My only disappointment is that I did not get to exercise as much as I hoped. Overall, though, my break was awesome.
Like every other senior I was badly in need of a break. I decided to distance myself from the school schedule and get some good amount of sleep. I hadn’t been getting much sleep due to school work and university acceptance. But unfortunately I was supposed to hear from my university at the beginning of March so that created some kind of tension and lead to more stress. I kept checking my email everyday hoping to get some kind of response but that never happened. Apart from university trauma I was pretty sick. I had a bad cough and sore throat due to the awful weather which kept me from going out. I stayed home the whole week eating, sleeping, and drinking medicines. Although it wasn’t as bad I wish I could have gone out and spent some time with my friends. On Sunday night I decided to sit down and read some AP comparative government because I realized the test was in 2 months and I was losing track. I thought I would at least get through a few chapters but NO a few pages were enough for a goodbye to spring break. Nonetheless, it was a quite a nice break :)
My break was pretty chilled. Usually when I go to Nigeria for holidays, I always have something to do because I hang out with my brother and some of his friends. But this time my brother wasn’t home; he was in Belgium for almost the whole break. So I expected my break to be boring at first but actually it turned out to be fun. I stayed home most of the time but I also got to go out with a friend sometimes.
When I stayed home, I would mostly spend my time watching TV, being on my laptop, staying by the pool, or going to the gym. It wasn’t so boring at home because I was just happy to be with the family and to chill with my sisters. Every time I went out, my friend, Adrian gave me a call to tell me he had a cool plan for the night. So we mostly went out to the restaurant with some friends. We laughed and had fun. I was also surprised because I met a lot of people I didn’t know in Nigeria. My friend and I met some girls of The American School of Lagos. They were very cool so we hung out all together some times: we went to the restaurant and chilled over their place most of the time.
For the last few days of the break, I mostly went to the mall. And two days before I left, Adrian and I went clubbing with all his friends. We had fun and I danced a lot. When we came out of the nightclub, some Lebanese guys were fighting with the bouncers outside, because they kept using the word F. The bouncer did not like that; he said that they do not use rude words a lot in Nigeria. So as they were getting angry together, one armed soldier also meant to keep the nightclub safe, came out of nowhere, pulled out his gun and shot in the air to scare the Lebanese guys. So after the soldier shot his gun, they decided to leave finally. And we also decided to leave the place after the fight.
You all live pretty amazing lives. My break was here. I worked on Seussical and stayed home. I've only been to four restaurants here (once each) and have never been to a nightclub, ever. Ah, the joys of American suburbia!
My Spring break was totally amazing! I was so looking forward to this break and why shouldn’t I, I was travelling on the arts trip to Italy. I was so excited because Italy was like my dream country and I always wanted to visit it but unfortunately never got a chance to visit it so, now that I had a chance I did not want to miss it. The place is stunning, gorgeous and everything about the country is so unique and different the people, their culture, the food how can you miss the food Italian food, delicious, even though we spent most of our time visiting museums, art galleries, and churches and went to shop it was worth all. The weather was perfect it was cold very cold. I love being in cold places. I did not wish to come back home but I had to. I was so in love with the country and loved every bit of what I saw. The trip made me forget about the amount of work I had to finish for school but once I got back, I had to work on my pending assignments and had to finish them.
Florence is supposed to be a great place for people interested in art history, and since you plan on a career in design, that's you. Glad you enjoyed it. I'd love to go someday, too.
During our spring break I was asked why I had a week off by my golf coach. My reply to him was that I had no idea why. He laughed and thought I was joking. In fact, I still don’t know what spring break is and why we get it.
My “golf coach” asking that question gives away what I did all spring break. I tried to discipline myself by arriving at the golf course every morning at 8:30. This break gave me the opportunity to recover on my golf game. With Seussical and homework on my plate, there was barely enough time for a 4-hour sport.
That was my morning routine! As for the afternoons, I hung out or as they say “chilled” a lot with my friends. If I felt like being productive I would stay home and catch up on some work. My parents were absent on a vacation so I had all the freedom in the world. In normal cases children often call their friends over and trash the house but instead I was almost only home to sleep, and sometimes eat.
I tend to love food during school days and when the weekend or a short holiday comes I don’t seem to have enough time to eat. This spring break, I literally skipped all my breakfasts and a couple of my lunches. To keep myself energized I would drink a few red bulls and cokes per day.
To sum it up, this break was a typical one. My summer break, my winter break, and almost all other breaks sound similar.
Spring break was extremely busy, because of how short it was. I did however, to my surprise, manage to get a lot done in such a short amount of time. I was able to balance school work and my social life, by planning every day of the week. Though naturally, there were a few changes to the schedule along the way. I was glad that I was able to catch up on school work, and organize the pile of papers that had accumulated in my folder over the weeks leading up to the break. So in other words, my break was rather productive. Though I would be lying, if I said catching up on school works was the best part of my break. The best part of my break was hanging out with my friends, at small get togethers, and getting lots of sleep. I really tried to make the most of my break. As it recently dawned on me, that it really is my last year of high school, and I want to make the most of my last few months. So though I was sad to go back to school after such a short break, I was glad to hear that there was a break in the coming weeks. So I knew it would be my chance to do whatever I did not get the chance to do during the previous break, and it would also be my chance to once again, catch up on sleep and work.
Glad to hear you are working on balance - you'll need it next year. Congrats on your productivity - and having friends to hang out with. Cherish this final high school time with them.
I was happy that we got a break from school. Got time to relax and rest also caught up in some work in AP Physics. Plus I came back from the MUN trip so I needed to catch up on stuff. I needed the rest because I got sick during the trip. Got plenty of time to sleep which was a plus. I also got enough time to play games on my PlayStation example FIFA and Call of Duty. Another thing I was really happy I got to do during the break if play golf. I played golf everyday and got better at it every time. I got so good that one hole I hit the ball and it stopped right two feet away from the hole and I hit a birdie in that round. Sometimes the ball would bounce from the walls behind the hole and roll all the way to the hole. The only down fall of my break was that my computer crashed and everything I had was destroyed lost in action. All my movies and show gone. Also the part that all my homework that I had to give in when the school started was on my laptop. So I had to do every thing all over again. Which spoiled the my break a bit but not all of it thanks to golf and my PS3.
When are you going to replace the laptop? you can live w/o the games, but as a student you do need the wp and some internet...glad you discovered golf - it's a good sport to get outdoors and hang with friends.
You know what I did this spring break… S.t.u.d.y. This spring break I focused on TOEFL instead of AP or SAT. I had a TOEFL test coming up on Saturday and I had to prepare for it. I have no idea how I am going to make this passage interesting but I’ll try. People say, “Why do you study so much?.” Even my housemaid told me, “You like studying”- well, that’s what she saw everyday she came to my house. To be sure I do not like studying; who in the Earth would like to work? Definitely, I am not the one. This world makes me study, makes me do work, makes me sit and read stuffs. Stupid SAT, AP, TOEFL… I wish I could just not care about these thing like some people in our class do but do I have a choice? No Since DRC does not have TOEFL ibt (internet-based test) but only pbt (paper-based test) which Korea does not accept, I had to fly to South Africa to take the test. My dad stressed that it is an EXPENSIVE test and I realize that so well too. This spring break I focused on getting a good score on my TOEFL. After TOEFL I have spent a lot time with my friends in South Africa, healing myself from all these burdens.
My spring break was amazing. Definition of spring break is a week's vacation for students in the spring. A week’s vacation for us, no way was I going to do school work or any sort of homework. On Friday I went back home threw my school bag aside and did not pick it up before the Monday back to school. I spent the whole week with my friends from Monday to Saturday, and I loved it. I really needed a break off school. All the college applications to fill in, and send, the teacher’s assignments to give in at tight due dates, was a lot of pressure and stress, and so a break was came in handy. Getting the opportunity, to take my head of the scholastics and academics and at the right time felt magical. I must admit though, that all through the week I was kind of stressed, always checking my emails for some type of response from the universities I had applied too. But I still managed to have fun even with the looming stress, thanks to my friends. So a short summary of my spring break is this: no discipline, late wake ups, every day with my friends, party, party, party, and sleep (the most important).
“Look me in my face, I ain’t got no worries.” Quote from a song called No Worries, which I think summarizes my Spring break at it’s best. No school no worries. That is what spring break was to me. I think I sang that song all through my free week. I would dare say it was the best spring break I have had till them. One thing for sure is I had no sleep. I mean, why waste your time sleeping when there is so much to do with your friends outside, like party, go out, or chill at some really nice place. Why even think of sleep. During my spring break I probably only got 11 hours of sleep. With that much hours of sleep all I would have for breakfast was a good dose of red bull. I did not bother a single minute about doing schoolwork or applying for college. I know the breaks are giving to complete some schoolwork, too but I made no time for schoolwork and was planning to make. I met with my friends the whole week, from Monday to Sunday, no day alone or to myself. I kept them around me during the entire break. For every new day we did something new, I was already tired of the school routines I needed change, so everyday we did something different from the preceding day. I don’t even think I ever did get bored during that spring break. That was a spring break worthy of my senior year.
“This break I’m going to get ALL my work done,” I confidently told my friends. And I have to say, I did plan on working until my brain was fried, but sadly, this did not happen. The minute I got back from the MUN trip, I was exhausted!
Sounds great. And you did swim at Poya's, so you got some exercise.
DeleteLike every other senior I was badly in need of a break.
ReplyDeleteglad you enjoyed most of it. Sorry you were sick, but congrats on your uni acceptance!
DeleteMy break was pretty chilled.
ReplyDeleteWhen I stayed home, I would mostly spend my time watching TV, being on my laptop, staying by the pool, or going to the gym.
DeleteMy Spring break was totally amazing!
ReplyDeleteFlorence is supposed to be a great place for people interested in art history, and since you plan on a career in design, that's you. Glad you enjoyed it. I'd love to go someday, too.
DeleteDuring our spring break I was asked why I had a week off by my golf coach. My reply to him was that I had no idea why. He laughed and thought I was joking. In fact, I still don’t know what spring break is and why we get it.
ReplyDeleteMy “golf coach” asking that question gives away what I did all spring break.
Hope you managed to lower your score or perfect your swing, or whatever it was you needed to do.
ReplyDeleteSpring break was extremely busy, because of how short it was.
ReplyDeleteThe best part of my break was hanging out with my friends, at small get togethers, and getting lots of sleep.
ReplyDeleteI was happy that we got a break from school.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I was really happy I got to do during the break if play golf.
ReplyDeleteYou know what I did this spring break… S.t.u.d.y. This spring break I focused on TOEFL instead of AP or SAT. I had a TOEFL test coming up on Saturday and I had to prepare for it. I have no idea how I am going to make this passage interesting but I’ll try.
ReplyDeletePeople say, “Why do you study so much?.” Even my housemaid told me, “You like studying”- well, that’s what she saw everyday she came to my house. No
Since DRC does not have TOEFL ibt (internet-based test) but only pbt (paper-based test) which Korea does not accept, I had to fly to South Africa to take the test. My dad stressed that it is an EXPENSIVE test and I realize that so well too. This spring break I focused on getting a good score on my TOEFL. After TOEFL I have spent a lot time with my friends in South Africa, healing myself from all these burdens.
Hope your studies paid off. And while you may not love studying for these tests specifically, I bet you really do like to study somethings.
ReplyDeleteMy spring break was amazing.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had fun. De-stressing is a good thing, sometimes, as long as you can afford it academically.
ReplyDelete“Look me in my face, I ain’t got no worries.” Quote from a song called No Worries, which I think summarizes my Spring break at it’s best. No school no worries. That is what spring break was to me. I think I sang that song all through my free week. I would dare say it was the best spring break I have had till them. One thing for sure is I had no sleep.
ReplyDeleteI mean, why waste your time sleeping when there is so much to do with your friends outside, like party, go out, or chill at some really nice place. That was a spring break worthy of my senior year.
sounds like a good time to recharge in you very special way.
